“Help! Fire!” I once heard a woman cry out in her native dialect just after she discovered her husband had been shot dead. Her words resonate in my heart when I encounter certain harsh challenges in my life, especially the really hurtful ones. It really feels like fire raging over you, sometimes like an unquenchable inferno that has come to sweep away every bit of life in you.
Knowledge and experience has brought to our understanding the truth that heat, fire is not always destructive but in many cases productive when elements are exposed to it. It can bring out the best in a thing, like food over the heat, gold in the refiner’s fire etc. However, there’s a time limit and modus operandi best for every preparation process.
When the heat stays only for a shorter or way longer period than the right time limit, the results are disrupted, like uncooked or burnt food, especially the ones damaged beyond repair. There’s a time limit for you to be in any fire, and a modus operandi just as well. There’s a required intensity of heat required to properly prepare each type of food and using one process for another may damage the results. In the same vein, if the right recipe in the right quantity and manner isn’t used in preparing the meal, it could also produce disrupted results. And guess what ? Even if the exact same process in all its accuracy were repeated by two different persons , the results may be alike, but never exactly the same. So what’s the point?
No two individuals are on the same race called life. You can and should learn from others as much as you can, but never compare yourself to anyone.
It may seem like all hope is lost and all that’s left is ashes of what once was, but guess what, your life situations, the time limit and modus operandi you require to handle the fire you’re in, is nothing that can be determined by circumstances, nor society standards, nor by family or peer pressures, nor by traditions, nor by known suppositions, not even by religion or even by you, but by the writer of time, the maker of Heaven and earth. Trust Him to direct you, He never fails. He’s totally got your back. Even ashes serve a purpose. Have you ever wondered why it’s the ashes left of the charcoal that collaborated with the fire to burn the pot black, ugly and dirty that is used to clean up the pot and make it shine again?
“…listen to the lord who created you.…, the one who formed you says,“Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you.I have called you by name; you are mine.2When you go through deep waters,I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up;the flames will not consume you3For I am the lord, your God,…”– Isa 43;1-3a
